Temi Dollface is one of those artists that just seems to never make a wrong turn musically. That’s a fact. Each track she’s released so far in her career is a testament of excellent composition (Just Like That), humorous yet intelligent songwriting (Pata Pata) and a perfectionist finish (School Your Face). So let me tell you how frustrating it is that she continues to be slept on my mainstream music listeners: IT’S EXTREMELY FRUSTRATING.
Continuing in her self described Drama-Soul stylings, her latest release Beep Beep is a girl power anthem that serves as an ode to femininity and the pride that comes with it. Her songwriting is excellent as always, dare I say her best yet. Lyrics such as “Like tell you about the simplicity of my complexity/My artful dexterity” prove not only would she be an excellent crossword puzzle expert but also the fact that she dedicates a lot of time to her craft. The chorus also doubles as a hook and forms one of the best in Nigerian music this year and those glorious horns just make you want to groooooveee! Blackmagic and Ikon should not be left out as they are vital parts in creating the drama in her fabulous Drama-Soul performance. Ikon’s production maintains his reputation as one the best in the game right now and Blackmagic’s deep baritone is the only one that could have made the bridge what it was.
Taking all this in to consideration, it’s quite evident that Temitope Phil-Ebosie is well on her way to special kind of international stardom. This is me tooting her horn for her more: BEEP BEEP!
