NMA 2017: No we didn’t forget about this

So the last time I blogged about the NMAs, an alternative awards system (Of which we still need sponsors), it was 2015. The Naija Music Awards was designed to highlight the best of music across different genres for majority of the year. In this case we decided to adopt the Grammy eligibility window method of judging based on music released from 1st October 2015 to 2nd October 2016. It is important to note that the decision making process for the nominees was a very collaborative one and involved over 50 different music listeners and professionals across the country totally unrelated to one another.

Quick Reminder as to how the NMAs work:

The votes are open to all listeners/lovers of Nigerian music to decide of which forms 50% of the total votes, the remaining 50% would be decided by a professional music body of professionals and industry insiders. This can only happen if we get as much votes as possible to attract sponsors that would help proceed to further stages.

While the response in the online polls was positive to the last NMAs (2015), it sadly wasn’t enough to get the attention of corporate sponsors to help us create an actual live awards show and thus everything was put on hold. Anyway we’re back and willing to try again, it’s a smaller team this time that is very much open to more collaborators (hit me up in the comments) and we hope you guys vote! Look out for the nominees in the next post.

Much love.
